When my last group, Mhorlocks, worked its way through the NYC hip-hop underground, we considered ourselves the moody Blackbirds out of our particular brotherhood with the good groups of the Critical Mass click. Unfortunately, we disbanded before being able to release our intended first album "Blackbirds: A Higher Level of Darkness" - one of three that had were works in progress. I wanted to carry on the tradition Mhorlocks had built and adopted the persona as my own. Therein lies "The Blackbird".

Raised in Queens, NYC, Omega Johnson (f/k/a Dok Who?!) is a powerful lyricist who has been a part of hip-hop culture since the early 1980s. It was in 1991 that he adopted the name Mr. Omega, as the end of one cycle that creates the next.

Omega was a frontman for several groups including the 'Mhorlocks', who built a strong reputation in New York City, before disbanding in 1999.
